Foreclosure Prevention

If you have received a notice of foreclosure sale (also called a sheriff’s sale), call your lender immediately and request a Loan Modification package. Contact the Center for Nonprofit Housing (CNH) and we will do our best to see you within 48 hours. Time is critical. You must communicate everything with your lender and counselor.

Losing a home is devastating. It impacts families, both financially and emotionally, for years. CNH, a TrueNorth community service, has worked with dozens of families to help them save their home from foreclosure due to past-due property taxes or delinquent mortgage payments. While not all families can avoid foreclosure, we exhaust all available options to help you save your home. We are certified through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) to provide high quality foreclosure counseling at no cost to you. CNH will:

  • Help you communicate and negotiate with your lender or mortgage company to see what refinance or modification options you may have.
  • Help you submit a complete package to the Step Forward Michigan program who can pay your past due mortgage payments and/or property taxes.
  • Attempt to help families who are denied all other assistance thanks to generous support from the Fremont Area Community Foundation.

(Note: CNH may request payment for a copy of your credit report, depending on your financial situation. The cost will not exceed $15.)
